Start The New Year Right By Eating These Fruits

Sayings such as “An apple a day will keep the doctor away” or “Be sure to eat fruit to look good in your birthday suit” have been around for decades. But do these sayings have any truth to them? The answer is yes!

Fruits such as oranges and grapefruits often get a lot of praise due to the extremely high levels of vitamin C they contain. Cherries help to fight gout and arthritis pain due to the presence of anthocyanins that help to reduce inflammation.

Cherries also help the body to rid excess uric acid. High uric acid levels can lead to gout attacks. Drinking cherry juice helps the body to rid excess uric acid levels through the urine.

However, what a lot of people don’t know is that these fruits are also an excellent source of another much more exclusive health boosting nutrient – flavanones.

Today, I will be giving you a little more information on the flavanones and explaining how you can make these citrus based nutrients part of your diet in the New Year.

The Power of Cherries

Cherries, especially Michigan-grown, Montmorency cherries are packed full of power antioxidants including flavanones, anthocyanins and melatonin. The combination of the flavanones and anthocyanins helps your body to fight dangerous free radicals that can cause wrinkles, age spots, fight joint pain and more.

However, what many people may not know is Montmorency no-added sugar cherries are also nature’s #1 source of naturally occurring melatonin. This compound helps you to get a better night’s sleep.

Why Citrus Fruits Are So Healthy For You?

Unlike vitamin C which can be sourced from a wide range of fruits and vegetables, flavanones can only be sourced from grapefruits, oranges and certain herbs.  This is where the true power of citrus fruits lies.

One of the main flavanone benefits is that they act as powerful antioxidants in the body.  Antioxidants are health boosting substances that keep your body safe from free radicals and protect your cells from the damage that they can cause.  In addition to this, the flavanones can reduce your risk of developing cancer or diabetes.  Finally, they can protect your vital organs from damage.
